Blog Site Changes

Friday, March 19th, 2010

On a whim a few days ago, I looked at my feedburner statistics.  I was shocked to learn that there are 20 people who have subscribed  to my feed.  So I thought I better spend some more time on my blog in order thank those people for their time and attention.  So I am planning to have fewer of these useless posts and concentrate on more meaty posts that might actually help someone out.

Secondly, I decided that I wanted to change my twitter handle and I thought about it for quite a while and thought blending my last name with my job as a SQL Server DBA.  So I morphed into SQLLawman.  I’m following suit and changed my blog to follow suit.

Finally, I found a new theme for my blog and I really like the simple nature, so I think I’ll work from here to edit and add features as time goes by.

My Wordle

After seeing a few of the other Wordles beginning to pop up on blogs, I had to add my own.  I think it will be fun to do this again in a few months to see how the words change.  So enjoy.

Another SQL Server DBA Blog

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Yep, another SQL Server admin is throwing his words into the ring.  My path to DBAdom did not take the developer to DBA track.  My trail came from the systems side.  I started as a NetWare administrator, then spearheaded the Visine project (Get the ‘red’ out) .  Then I moved into Windows/Citrix administration.  Our Linux administrator moved onto greener pastures and I was asked to take over that administration.  That was a really cool assignment especially when VMware fell under that umbrella.  I architected our virtual environment that took us into the leading edge in virtualization at that time.  After I got that environment a smooth running machine we lost our two MS SQL DBAs.  I was asked to replace these two very talented individuals.  I am currently working on consolidating as many of our databases and well as keeping all the existing servers running smoothly.  I am also working on implementing a wiki for my DBA team to attempt to standardize our documentation.

I will be posting several quick, easy scripts.  Mostly to have my script library where I can get to it easily.  Feel free to use them to gain information about your environment.  Since I am not coming from the development world, I have a lot of learning to do.
